Hugh Grant Shared His Daughters’ Names for the First Time

Respect to the celebrity parents out there who keep their kids out of the spotlight and away from the flashbulbs—and the king of that may just be rom-com vet Hugh Grant, who has managed to keep the names of his two daughters a secret, until now. Last night, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about his latest movie, Heretic, Grant dropped a major bombshell after host Jimmy Kimmel asked him about his children.

Grant shares two daughters, who are 5 and 8 years old, with his wife, producer Anna Elisabet Eberstein. Grant shared that when they arrived, he was in a “panic” trying to choose his kids’ names.

“I must ask you about your middle name, because this is a little detail. I don’t know how it slipped past me the last time. But, Mungo is one of your middle names, yes?” Kimmel asked.

Grant confirmed that his name is, in fact, Hugh Mungo, saying, “It’s actually Hugh John Mungo. I don’t know how it happened. I had very unkind parents.”

When Kimmel inquired about his daughters’ middle names, Grant explained—and revealed—the story behind his daughter’s name, Lulu Danger Grant.

“Worse. I have a daughter who I named…I was in a bit of a panic with my wife on the day we named her and we thought it might be nice for her when she was older if she could say in bars that her middle name was Danger,” Grant shared. “So, her name is Lulu Danger Grant.”

He added that his kids love it and, in the process, dropped his other daughter’s name, as well.

“My children love it. They love it. Actually, Lulu Danger Grant and her sister, Blue Grant, named Blue because again I panicked about names with my wife, so we asked [Lulu’s] elder brother when she was on the way,” he added.

Grant has five children. Grant and his ex, Tinglan Hong, welcomed their first child, Tabitha Xiao Xi Grant, in September 2011. Grant and Eberstein welcomed a son, John Mungo Grant, in 2012. In December of that same year, Grant and Hong welcomed son, Felix Chang Hong Grant. Lulu and Blue round out the family.

If it was up to the kids, however, there could have been another name in the mix.

“We said, ‘There’s a new baby coming along, what should we call her?’ And he said, ‘Kevin,’ because that was his favorite Minion,” Grant said, referencing the animated film Despicable Me. “And we did think about calling her Kevin, but then we said, ‘You better think of something else.’ So, he said Blue, because it was his favorite color.”
